At the 2025 French Open, Coco Gough became the first American woman to win a singles title since Serena Williams in 2015. She also became the youngest champion since Williams in 2002.

American-born players have a track record of success in tennis. This is the most successful American-born tennis player in the open era in the Grand Slam.

Pete Sampra -14 Grand Slam Single Title

Born in the country’s capital, Sampler continued his tennis journey in Southern California before turning professional at the age of 16. He won the US Open in 1990 at 19, becoming the youngest American to win the event.

Other Agassi -8 single titles

Agassi is one of three men (along with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic).

Jimmy Conners -8 single titles

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Connors went on to rise as a meteor. He remains the only player to win the US Open on three different surfaces.
