Defender Lloyd Kelly recently spent an unexpected time in his soccer career. The players moved to Newcastle United and joined Italian giant Juventus.
The former England Under 21 defender signed for Magpies in June 2024 after his contract with Bournemouth expired.
After limited playing time at St. James Park, the defender moved to Juventus, initially moving on loan moves, but his move later became permanent.
Newcastle was hoping he would seamlessly strengthen his left-back or left-center back slots, but this move never hit top gear.
Lloyd Kelly failed emotionally at Newcastle United
Kelly managed just 10 Premier League appearances by January, frequently following in a pecking order behind Lewis Hall and Svenbottman.
Following his spell in Italy, the defender was able to return to England with one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing him.
According to Italian outlet Il Bianconero, Crystal Palace explores the possibility of offering Kelly a route into the Premier League following the Italian turbulent spell with Juventus.
The Eagles are said to be closely monitoring the situation for the 26-year-old defender, and could move in the coming weeks as they begin to try to bolster their defense.
The move to Serie A was seen as a fresh start and an opportunity to reestablish himself at top European clubs, but his time in Turin was not following the plan.
Kelly has appeared 13 times and despite showing a flash of his quality, he has struggled to adapt to the tactical demands of Italian football.
Crystal Palace is ready to bring Kelly back to England
The Palace is keen to add depth and versatility to the backline, and the former Bournemouth captain will fit the player profiles demonstrated by the Premier League.
A return to England could also benefit Kelly, who is able to rediscover his best form in a familiar league.
After the completion of his loan spell, seeing Ben Chilwell return to Chelsea due to the uncertain future of Mark Guech of Selhurst Park, Palace is now considering the moves of the former Bournemouth man.
Glasner’s team is also linked to AC Milan’s move to defender Fikayo Tomori.
