NBA Insider believes Giannis Antetokounmpo will not be traded in the “short-term future”

Last season, the Bucks finished fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 48-34 record. In the third straight postseason, Milwaukee lost in the first round.

Bucks’ two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has been at the heart of trade rumours this offseason. Many people predict that they will not play for Milwaukee from 2025-26. On Thursday, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Antetokounmpo will not be traded in a “short-term future” by the Bucks.

In Thursday’s edition of Get Up On ESPN, Brian Windhorst shared his knowledge of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s status. Last month there was a report that the 30-year-old had an interest in leaving the team. There was no in-person meeting between the Milwaukee star player and the front office, but Windhorst believes he will stay with the Bucks. A longtime NBA insider said the rest of the league agreed to the fact that Giannis Antetokounmpo is not leaving the team right now.

He pointed out that Giannis will not be traded in a “short-term future” by the Bucks. However, Windhorst said he cannot commit to what will happen in August. Just four posts ago, Milwaukee won the NBA Finals. Since then, the Bucks have only won it once from the first round. This is an important offseason for the Bucks. They want to make Antetokounmpo happy. Otherwise, he may seek future deals.

The nine-time All-Star has been out of the season for three consecutive times with over 30 points, 11 or more rebounds and 5+ assists per game. Antetokounmpo does everything a little bit to help his team win. He came in third place in the MVP voting from 2024-25. In his seventh straight season, he finished the top five in MVP voting at the end of the year. To maintain the candidate East, the Bucks will need to hold Giannis this offseason. If they lose him, their franchise outlook will change dramatically.
