Jay Monaghan: Brian Rollup has been hired as CEO as PGA Tour Commissioner resigns

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monaghan will resign nine years later when his contract ends in 2026.

Brian Lolap will be appointed the tour’s first chief executive and will gradually take over Monaghan’s daily responsibilities.

Rolapp has spent more than 20 years in the National Football League (NFL) and has recently been Chief Media and Business Officer.

“A year ago, when I finished as a 10-year commissioner, I informed my board that I would be resigning from my role at the end of 2026,” Monaghan said.

“Since then, we have worked together to identify leaders who can develop processes that will build momentum and ensure a smooth transition.

“We’ve found the right leader for Brian Lolap. I’m excited to support him as he moves from the NFL to his new role leading the PGA Tour.”

The past few years as a Monaghan committee member have been dominated by golf contests caused by the rise of the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV golf circuit.

The 55-year-old was a critic of the LIV voice, but later played a key role in negotiations, leading to an agreement to form a partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The secret nature of the talks with Liv has angered many players.

Negotiations aimed at a final agreement between the PGA Tour and LIV are ongoing, and Rolapp hopes to unify the sport.

“I think the fans were pretty clear,” Rollup said. “They want to see the best golfers competing with each other, and I agree.

“As for the LIV situation, I think it’s a complicated situation that I think is something I should probably learn more before I talk about.

“But I think my focus is on growing the tour, improving it and really moving from the position of strength it has.”

Tiger Woods is part of the PGA Tour CEO Search Committee and unanimously recommended Rolapp for this role.

“Brian’s appointment is a victory for the players and the fans,” Woods said. “He gives clear respect to the game and our players, bringing a fresh perspective from his experience in the NFL.

“We are excited about what’s going forward and we are confident that Brian’s leadership will continue to grow the tour in a way that benefits everyone who loves the sport.”
