Arsenal wants to create a team that can win the Premier League and Champions League, but efforts to do so could be affected by the departure of key players who are currently heading towards the exit door.

It has been taken for granted in recent weeks for Arsenal to complete the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Spain International is expected to be Mikel Arteta’s first-choice defensive midfielder, but nonetheless, Thomas Part is still being supplied with pencils to play a key role in North London.

Part was behind an impressive season, during which he made 52 appearances for Arsenal. And his performance led to club officials seeking a new contract, and his existing deal expired at the end of the month.

Arsenal had no plans to keep the party going beyond this summer, but the decision of Jorgiño to leave led them to seek an agreement with the veteran midfielder. For now, he has a 50-50 chance to stay, but if he leaves, the alternatives are already in line.
