  • Chelsea defender finds Lyon attractive
  • There is also interest in Disasi from the Premier League.

According to L’Equipe, Chelsea defender Axel Disassi has become a hot center back for the January transfer window, with Olympique Lyon officially contacting him about a possible loan move.

The French side are looking to secure temporary defensive reinforcements in case of a short-term crisis, with Clinton Mata and Moussa Niahate both set to depart for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in early January.

But Lyon is not alone in this race. Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, West Ham United and Galatasaray are closely monitoring Disasi’s situation at Stamford Bridge, with some considering the possibility of a permanent move rather than a loan.

Lyon’s approach to sign DiSasi comes at a particularly trying time for manager Paulo Fonseca, who has seen his team struggle for consistency in Ligue 1.

With a key defender leaving on international duty and a lack of experienced cover players in the squad, the club’s recruitment team believe Disasi is an ideal short-term reinforcement.

The 27-year-old France international made a name for himself at AS Monaco before joining Chelsea for £38m in the summer of 2023 and will bring immediate leadership and familiarity with the domestic league.

However, the French club’s offer is reportedly dependent on Chelsea subsidizing part of his wages, which could complicate negotiations.

Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United are also said to be aiming for a permanent move.

Dortmund sees Disasi as a reliable, athletic option who can anchor their backline for years to come.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also on the list, with manager Eddie Howe looking to strengthen his defense.

The Magpies are considering defensive options on the market as defender Fabian Schaal’s future at the club remains uncertain.

Disasi’s aerial dominance and composure on the ball have reportedly impressed Newcastle’s scouting department, who rate him as a player ready to quickly adapt to the intensity of the Premier League.

Chelsea are understood to be open to an offer, but only under the right conditions.

Lyon are currently leading the chase, but much will depend on whether Chelsea approve a short-term deal. Disasi himself is thought to be open to a move that would guarantee him regular football.
