Halle, Germany – Top Rank Jannik Sinner was covered in Alexander Bublik 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round at the Halle Grass-Court Tournament on Thursday.
Halle Defending Champion’s Sinner was playing in his first tournament since losing a five-set thriller to Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland-Garros Finals.
The three-time Grand Slam champion defeated Yannick Hanfuman in the first round this week, but after losing to a sinner in the Paris quarter-finals, Babrick, a massive service, won a revenge.
“It’s something special – I’ve never beaten the top 1 (No. 1) in the world, that’s an accomplishment,” Bublik, ranked 45th, said in an interview on his court.
The Kazakhstan player recorded 36 winners and 15 aces against top-seeded sinners in the Wimbledon warm-up tournament.
“I just kept serving, kept him in an uncomfortable position and it worked,” said Babrik, the 2023 Hale Champion, who will face Thomas Machuk in the quarterfinals.
Also on Thursday, second seed Alexander Zverev lasted Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) to reach the quarter final.
