Rumors swirl around Giannis Antetokounmpo trade: Bucks might overhaul roster if superstar departs, sources reveal

The Milwaukee Bucks might soon undergo a major roster shakeup. In the coming weeks, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his representatives will be evaluating his future with the team. Should the two-time MVP request a trade, the Bucks will need to strategize their response carefully. According to Jake Fischer, if Giannis is traded, Milwaukee may also consider moving several other key players, including Bobby Portis, Kyle Kuzma, and Myles Turner, as part of a broader rebuild.

It’s understandable since these players might not fit into the team’s plan without Antetokounmpo. Turner’s recent signing by the Bucks was likely an attempt to satisfy Giannis, but Turner’s performance has been underwhelming, with averages of 12.4 points and a career-low shooting percentage of 43.5% over 23 games. If Giannis leaves, it would be prudent for the Bucks to cut ties with Turner, who is signed to a four-year contract worth $108.86 million.

Possible destinations for Turner, as noted by Sam Quinn, could include the Atlanta Hawks. In a proposed trade scenario, the Hawks would receive Antetokounmpo and Turner, while the Bucks would get Trae Young, Zachary Lizacher, Dyson Daniels, Kristaps Porzingis, and three first-round draft picks. This would benefit both teams, although it wouldn’t be surprising if either Turner or Kuzma were packaged with Giannis in a trade. Turner is especially valuable due to his ability to stretch the floor with three-point shooting and his defensive skills, including leading the league in blocks twice.

Even if Turner isn’t part of the Giannis trade, other teams are likely to show interest in acquiring him. Kuzma could also attract reasonable offers, as he is a solid defender and scorer who could thrive in the right environment, similar to his role during the Lakers’ championship run. While the possibility of Giannis requesting a trade is tough news for the Bucks, it could provide a significant opportunity to rebuild with promising young talent and draft assets, unless Giannis limits his trade destinations to a few select teams, which could complicate matters further.

Fan Take: This potential shakeup is huge for basketball fans as it signals the possibility of one of the NBA’s brightest stars changing teams, which could alter the league’s balance of power. It’s a pivotal moment that could lead to new rivalries and shift the future landscape of the sport, making every offseason move crucial to watch.
