At Windygrass Court in Eastbourne, Alex Aera’s game got stronger than the wind.
The Philippine tennis star continued to make an astonishing surge in grass, winning Ukrainian Dayana Yasutermska 6-1, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Eastbourne Open. The victory further cements her reputation as one of the tour’s threats a day after EALA surprised the world’s No. 20 Jelena Ostapenko.
Despite the intense conditions, the 20-year-old Ira remained composed during the match, using deep and consistent returns to neutralize the power of Yastremska. With a 57-37 gap in terms of total points, the game was undoubtedly a one-sided event in favor of EALA.
She defeated her opponent’s serve on all seven occasions, limiting her error to just 10.
This is EALA’s second WTA semi-final look, after her breakout at the 2025 Miami Open showed after she first rode the global tennis radar.
Currently, riding on a five-match winning streak in Grass, Ira will face France’s Valbara Gracheva (World No. 111) in the semi-finals.
