The players are back in preseason training with the Glasgow Rangers as Russell Martin prepares his group ahead of the Champions League qualifying clash next month.
Light Blues takes less than a month to prepare a two-legged tie to move on to the next stage of qualifying and bring the usual top-class continental football to Ibrox.
Martin has done a lot of work on the coaching pitch and ensures that Rangers players know for sure what their role is and how they play his system effectively, but there is also a lot to do in the summer transfer window.
Cyriel Dessers, for example, could be on his way out of Glasgow before the end of the window, reporting interest from Aek Athens and Feyenoord, who are about to sign him.
It is not yet known now whether Nigeria International will still be at Ibrox before the Champions League qualifiers begin.
Nicholas Ruskin is also linked to the exit, so he may not be the only star moving forward from the Scottish Premiership Giants this summer.
Why is it a blow to the ranger to lose Nicholas Ruskin?
Belgian International has attracted a lot of attention after the Light Blues performance in the 2024/25 season. Many Premier League teams are reportedly keen to sign him.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa and Leeds United are all reportedly paying attention to the former standard Liège talent, worth £25 million by the Scottish side.
Raskin will be a big blow to Martin due to the quality he’s losing out from XI, despite being able to join one of these three teams and be involved in the trade.
During the 2024/25 season, Belgian central midfielder was particularly impressive as Prime Minister.

As you can see in the table above, Raskin was threatened as both the scorer and the creator of the goal on his side.
However, the Rangers could lose another player who makes even bigger mistakes than the midfield star due to their offensive contributions to the team this season.
European teams want to sign the Rangers Star
According to reports on the continent, Ligue 1’s side is “hoping” to complete a deal signing Morocco International Hamzai Gamane from the Rangers before the end of the summer transfer period.
Reporters argue that talks continue between the two clubs as the French team appears to be approaching the centre of GERS.
Tavolieri adds that the 22-year-old has already agreed to personal terms with Lille and now he has verbally agreed.
Igamane is reportedly valued at a rate of around £15 million by the Rangers, and it remains to be seen whether the French side is willing to pay that much to the multi-purpose attacker.
This latest update from Tavolieri suggests that Lille wants to finalize terms regarding the striker’s transfer, and is confident that he can get the deal off for him, given that it will be an even greater loss than Martin’s Raskin.
Why Losing Igaman is a big blow to the Ranger
If Igaman seals off a permanent move to Lille this summer, the Light Blues will lose the most efficient finisher and scorer ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The Moroccan star enjoyed a great first season with GERS in Glasgow, scoring 16 goals in 46 matches in all competitions for the Scottish Giants, showing off his quality in front of the goal.
The Deserz finished their premiership season as the Rangers’ top scorer, 18 goals from 19.4 xg.
Igamane, who started only 23 of his 33 league appearances for the club, offered far more quality as a finisher the chances he had in the GERS premier.
The most efficient finisher in the Rangers 24/25 Premiership | |||
---|---|---|---|
player | xg | the goal | xg differential |
Vaclav Cerny | 9.57 | 12 | +2.43 |
Hazaze’s name | 9.84 | 12 | +2.16 |
Iannis Hagi | 2.41 | 4 | +1.59 |
Tom Lawrence | 2.88 | 4 | +1.12 |
Nicholas Laspin | 3.43 | 4 | +0.57 |

As you can see in the table above, Moroccan International is the most efficient finisher at the club, given that Vaclav Cerny’s loan from Wolfsburg has ended after returning 12 goals from just 9.84 xg.
At 22, Igamane has enough time left to develop and improve further under Martin’s coaching if he stays. Ruskin, on the other hand, is a little older, and at 24 years old, close to his prime.
The reported cost of £25 million for Raskin and £15 million for Igamane suggests the Rangers don’t get much value from the Striker sales compared to the midfielders.
So selling Moroccan forwards would be an even greater loss for GERS as it would offer more game-changing quality in the last third and be less than £10 million for players who have more time to improve.
