Sunderland is looking to improve their team ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League, and a new defender is in demand. And the person who can move to the Stadium of Light is Victor Christiansen.
It’s been a busy few weeks for Sunderland in terms of the transfer business. Jobe Bellingham is set to depart for Borussia Dortmund and will be replaced by Habib Diarra, and it has been agreed with Strasbourg. And then he goes further after him through the northeast door.
And in their bid to improve their options with fullback, Sunderland is now turning his attention to Christiansen.
Sunderland set the sights on Victor Christiansen’s summer moves
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio (via the last word on sports), Sunderland has genuine interest in Christiansen, who was relegated to Leicester and relegated from last season’s Premier League.
The 22-year-old has also been attracting attention from As Roma, with former sports manager Florent Ghisolfi taking on a similar role in Sunderland. Therefore, it is believed that the interest comes from him.
Given that Sunderland is just one of the few suitors gathered in recent months, it makes sense for Leicester to cash in to Christiansen now. The Italian club, which had Bologna and impressive Lawn Spell during the 2023-24 season, is said to be maintaining the tab, but staying in the Premier League might be his desired move.
It is not yet clear what Leicester’s asking price is for Christiansen, but Sunderland should be able to close the transaction if pursued. For now it is still unclear whether he is their preferred target to strengthen at left back, or if someone else has been selected instead.
