Diamondbacks Bar Fans from Chase Field Through 2025 After Repeated Outfield Interference Incidents

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Tuesday that they have banned certain season ticket holders for the remainder of the 2025 season due to their interference with a game-tying home run hit by San Francisco Giants infielder Christian Kos on Monday. The team cited “multiple crimes” committed by these fans and stated they could be allowed back in 2026 under specific conditions.

In a statement, the Diamondbacks explained, “Our policy is usually not to disclose information about season ticket holders, but due to public speculation and media inquiries about fan interference during last night’s game, we are making this exception. The fan involved in this incident has been responsible for several offenses at Chase Field, leading to the termination of their advantage member account and a ban from attending games for the rest of 2025.”

The incident in question happened during the eighth inning of Monday’s game, where the Giants were trailing 3-2. Fans reached over the field wall on the left side and interfered with Kos’s flyball. Initially, the umpire ruled fan interference, but after a replay, the call was overturned to a double. Koss was subsequently tagged out, and Arizona went on to win the game 4-2. The fans involved were removed from the stadium.

The “multiple crimes” mentioned by the Diamondbacks refer to repeated incidents of interference by the same fans over recent years, with one interference occurring each year for the past four years.

One of the fans, Dave McCaskill, told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Tuesday, “I’ve been officially kicked out three times. Two of those were close calls like last night. If you watch the video, you see the gloves come down after catching the ball. The camera angle wasn’t the best, but I’m not defending myself. Still, I don’t apologize to the Diamondbacks.”

Despite McCaskill’s defiant stance, the Diamondbacks have made it clear that the fans must watch the rest of their home games from home. While it’s human nature to reach for a ball coming your way, the team has drawn the line after multiple offenses.

Fan Take: This decision highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining fair play in baseball while managing passionate fans. It serves as a reminder that respecting the integrity of the game is crucial and that repeated interference can no longer be tolerated, ensuring a better experience for players and fans alike.
