Leeds United will need to sign a quality left back after Junior Furpo departs, linking with Benchilwell.
The 28-year-old defender has no future for Chelsea, so he rented it out at Crystal Palace. He will try to sort out his lasting future in the summer, and Ian Dark suggested in the Mot Leeds news that he could be on the radar to replace Leeds’ Firpo.
“If they can’t find a good alternative, that’s a big blow,” he told Mot Leeds News.
“They suspect that someone is lined up, people like (Aaron) Creswell and Chilwell are on the market.
“Promoted clubs have the problem of signing battles with better players that could be demoted. The more average players take Premier League money and take chances.”
Firpo has chosen to leave Leeds United at the expiration of his contract and he is expected to join former club Real Betis.
Leeds can use Chelsea defenders
Leeds needs a quality left back, and Chilwell could be a quality addition to them. The opportunity to play regularly in the Leeds and the Premier League can be exciting for defenders.
He was highly rated in the UK a few years ago, but his move to Chelsea hasn’t worked for him. He might ideally try to get his career back on track with regular football and join Leeds. They were able to provide him with the opportunity he needed now.
Chelsea need to get rid of Ben Chilwell
Meanwhile, Chelsea will also try to remove players. He is clearly not part of the plan ahead and it makes no sense for them to hold on him. They will sell him and try to get some money back from his departure. Chelsea will need to improve their team this summer, ideally removing any performance degradation.
The Bruce paid around £50 million to sign the players, but the move didn’t work for them. They should reduce the losses of defenders and move on now.
Meanwhile, Leeds wants to establish himself as a regular in the Premier League. They need quality players to get up until next season. They wouldn’t want to go back to the championship.
People like Chilwell have the quality and experience to do well in the Premier League. He could be a key player for Leeds.
