Since 2010, Steve Newmark has played a key role in RFK Racing within the NASCAR Cup Series. He successfully guided the team, owned by Jack Louche, through periods of downsizing and later revitalization under Brad Keselowski’s leadership. Currently, the team fields Queseroski in the No. 6 car along with three full-time drivers: Chris Buescher in No. 17 and Ryan Preece in No. 60.

On Tuesday, Newmark revealed that he will step down from his role as president of RFK Racing later this summer to join the athletics department at the University of North Carolina (UNC). RFK Racing expressed deep gratitude for Newmark’s 15 years of visionary leadership and dedication, emphasizing his lasting impact on the organization’s culture and growth. Although saddened by his departure, the team supports his decision and expects him to assist during the transition period.

In his own statement, Newmark reflected on the privilege of working with the Roush and Fenway organizations on behalf of Jack Roush and John Henry. He looks forward to starting a new chapter back in Chapel Hill, contributing to one of college sports’ most respected and successful programs. Newmark is eager to help UNC’s track and field strive for success amid the evolving college sports landscape.

Fan Take: Steve Newmark’s departure marks the end of a significant era for RFK Racing, a team that has undergone major transformation under his leadership. For NASCAR fans, this change could bring fresh perspectives and new strategies to the sport, making the upcoming seasons something to watch closely.
