The Steelers set to secure GM Omar Khan with a new contract following a successful offseason, extending his tenure by three years

The Pittsburgh Steelers have shown strong confidence in General Manager Omar Khan, announcing a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2028 NFL season. Although the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Khan expressed enthusiasm about the team’s future outlook, particularly beyond the 2025 season.

Khan, who has been with the Steelers organization since 2001, was promoted to general manager before the 2022 season. Since then, Pittsburgh has achieved a 29-22 record and made two playoff appearances. While the team has exceeded expectations in regular-season play under Khan’s leadership, postseason success remains elusive, with struggles especially evident on offense.

To address this, Khan has made some significant offseason acquisitions, bringing in experienced players like Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, and Jonusmith—who collectively boast 13 Pro Bowl appearances. Additionally, seven-time Pro Bowler Jalen Ramsey was signed to strengthen the defense.

Despite these improvements, some critical issues remain unresolved. Star pass rusher TJ Watt is currently seeking a new contract and did not attend the mandatory minicamp amid ongoing negotiations. The Steelers reportedly remain focused on re-signing Watt and are not open to trade offers for the seven-time Pro Bowler.

If both sides can reach a deal, Khan will face the challenge of leading the Steelers to compete at a high level within the talent-loaded AFC North division in 2025. Although this will be no easy task, the team’s recent ability to exceed expectations suggests they may continue to surprise fans and opponents alike.

Fan Take: This extension highlights the Steelers’ commitment to stability and long-term success, a rare and significant move in today’s NFL where front office turnover is common. For fans and the league, it signals a determined effort to build a championship-caliber team that could reshape the competitive balance in the AFC North.
