Over $2 Million Reported Stolen from Ex-Pro Bowler Reshad Jones

A woman has been arrested for allegedly collaborating with a former financial advisor to steal millions from ex-Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones. Isaiah Williams, the financial advisor, is accused of misappropriating $1.58 million from Jones’ personal bank account, spending the money on luxury items, legal fees, and child support, according to court documents obtained by WPLG-TV. Additionally, $1.03 million was reportedly siphoned off with the assistance of Octavia Monique Graham, a woman Jones has never met, as investigators reveal.

Jones’ legal representatives condemned the alleged theft as another disturbing instance of a professional athlete being exploited by a trusted asset management company. They disclosed that Williams held a vice president position at Merrill Lynch, the investment division of Bank of America, one of the world’s largest financial institutions. Jones’ lawyers plan to sue Merrill Lynch to hold the institution accountable and recover the full extent of their client’s financial losses.

Graham, 49, was detained at the Paul Lane detention center in Pompano Beach, Florida, on charges of first-degree grand larceny and two counts of money laundering. Meanwhile, Williams has not yet been apprehended regarding his alleged involvement.

Reshad Jones spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2015 and 2017. Picked in the fifth round from Georgia in the 2010 draft, he played 128 games and started 113 before retiring after the 2019 season. Over his career, Jones earned more than $56 million.

Fan Take: This incident highlights the vulnerability even top NFL stars face when it comes to managing their finances, underscoring the need for more robust protections and transparency in how athletes’ assets are handled. For the sport, it reinforces the importance of educating players on financial literacy and vigilance to safeguard their hard-earned wealth off the field.
