Jeff Tambellini, formerly the player development director for the Seattle Kraken, has been appointed as the assistant general manager and director of hockey operations for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Having worked with the Kraken since the 2022-23 season, Tambellini played a key role in the success of young players rising through the minor league system during his three-year tenure.

Prior to his time with the Kraken, the 41-year-old served as a college scout for the Lightning. Reflecting on his return, Tambellini expressed his excitement, citing his previous experiences with the Lightning organization as a player and in his early NHL career, including winning his first Stanley Cup.

The Lightning revealed this new appointment on Monday, filling the position left open after Mathieu Darche was named general manager of the New York Islanders in May. With 242 NHL games under his belt, Tambellini brings valuable on-ice experience to this leadership role. He spoke fondly of his time in Seattle and expressed gratitude to Ron Francis, Jason Botterill, and the entire Kraken organization for the opportunity to work alongside them for three impactful years.

Fan Take: Jeff Tambellini’s move to the Lightning is a significant boost for Tampa Bay, combining his developmental expertise and NHL experience. This hire highlights the increasing importance of blending player development with executive leadership in shaping successful hockey teams, something fans should watch closely.
