Halliburton, President of the Pacers, Confirms Pritchard to Miss Entire Upcoming Season

Kevin Pritchard, president of the Indiana Pacers basketball operations, officially announced on Monday that Tyrese Haliburton will not be playing for the Pacers next season. Haliburton suffered an Achilles tear early in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, which abruptly ended his season and the Pacers’ remarkable playoff run. Though advancements in surgical techniques and rehabilitation have enabled some athletes to return within nine months, Pritchard and the team prefer Haliburton to take the necessary time to fully recover rather than rushing back. The Pacers aim to have him healthy and leading the team again in the 2026-27 season instead of managing his comeback next year.

Last season, Haliburton was the driving force of the Pacers’ fast-paced offense, averaging 18.6 points and providing key assists. During the playoffs, he maintained averages of 17.3 points and 8.6 assists while shooting 34% from beyond the arc, all while adapting the Pacers’ dynamic offense even as the team faced defensive challenges against elite opponents like Oklahoma City. For the Pacers to succeed, Haliburton needs to be at his best, not easing back into form after a lengthy absence. Indiana’s decision to prioritize his long-term health over immediate returns is a wise move.

At the same press conference, Pritchard also shared that the Pacers plan to re-sign James Wiseman, who previously signed a two-year deal but tore his Achilles in the first regular season game. Wiseman was traded to Toronto at the deadline, but Indiana now has the opportunity to bring him back on a minimal contract. Wiseman, expected to be healthy by the season’s start, played behind Jay Huff, who was traded this offseason as the team adjusted to Miles Turner’s move to Milwaukee.

Fan Take: This news is crucial as it highlights the Pacers’ commitment to player health and long-term competitiveness rather than short-term fixes. For basketball fans, it signals a strategic rebuilding phase that could set the stage for a stronger, more resilient team in the coming years.
