ESPN’s latest research reveals new faces among the top 10 players at each NFL position, indicating that some players from last year’s rankings have dropped off due to factors like performance, injuries, or shifts in rankings. These updated top 10 lists have been compiled through votes from league executives, coaches, and scouts, enhanced by insights from ESPN NFL analyst Matt Bowen and detailed film analysis. With over 70 experts participating, the results were carefully weighed using vote counts, averages, and follow-up interviews to finalize the rankings.

The top 10 players in each position will be revealed over 11 days with a schedule that includes running backs on July 7, defensive tackles on July 8, edge rushers on July 9, safeties on July 10, tight ends on July 11, interior offensive linemen on July 12, offensive tackles on July 13, quarterbacks on July 14, off-ball linebackers on July 15, and wide receivers on July 16.

For running backs, Breece Hall of the Jets holds the No. 2 spot in the 2024 preseason rankings, having rebounded to 876 rushing yards, 57 receptions, and 8 touchdowns last season despite the Jets’ struggles. Nick Chubb, now with the Texans, ranks third but faced setbacks due to a severe knee injury and a broken leg that limited him to 332 yards in eight games. Travis Etienne Jr. of the Jaguars rounds out the top 10 but missed out on a potential third straight 1,000-yard season as the team worked on integrating him into the offense under new head coach Liam Cohen.

Fan Take: This updated ranking highlights the dynamic nature of NFL talent and the impact injuries can have on even the best players’ careers.
