Leeds United are currently strongly considering bidding for the “glorious” midfielders lined up to join with Sean Longstaff’s move this summer.
Leeds strengthens the pursuit of a new midfielder
Leeds has reached a personal agreement with Newcastle United’s longstaff, as revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Extensive reports suggest that the Newcastle midfielder will be free to leave his boyhood club this summer, with Eddie Howe admitting to leaving, and the move to Eland Road appears to be an increasingly likely outcome.
But Daniel Fark probably needs some quality in the engine room to avoid relegation from the Premier League next season, and if championship title winners are increasing interest in another midfielder, then maybe extra quality in the engine room.
This is according to a TeamTalk report that says Leeds is strengthening interest in Shea Charles as Leeds caught the eye in Lone Spell with Sheffield last season.
White tracked Charles’ performance during the Lonely spell on the Owl, and was clearly impressed by what they saw. Now, the movement is heavily considered, so it is unclear what fees it will cost to praise him from the saint.
Will also wants to retain the central midfielder over the summer.
Charles could be a “great” addition to Fark’s team
While Longstaff’s signature makes more sense, given his 27-year-old highly experienced at the Premier League level, Southampton’s midfielder’s performance in the championship shows he can step up to the top flight.
Not only has the 21-year-old been praised as “glorious” by media members, but journalist Joe Klan believes he can achieve big things in the game.
Perhaps most notable is Northern Ireland’s defensive capabilities, which have been performing very well on some key metrics over the past year compared to other midfielders.
Sea Charles | Average per 90 |
Intercept | 1.46 (83rd Percentile) |
Tackle | 2.68 (78th percentile) |
The air won | 1.54 (80th percentile) |
However, the former Sheffield Wednesday man, who recorded five assists in last season’s championship, is clearly a well-balanced midfielder and can contribute with his front paws.
Charles could be a solid Leeds signature this summer, but Longstaff looks like a more attainable target given Newcastle is more willing to sanction his departure.
