Indian tennis player Radhika Yadav, 25, was shot dead by his father Deepak Yadav, who lives in Gurugram on Thursday afternoon. Radhika was part of the ITF singles and doubles circuit before receiving coaching.

Gurugram police said that a private hospital in the city had been notified that the young woman had died from bullet injuries and when she arrived at the hospital she had found Radhika’s uncle Kuldeepyadav, not her parents.

According to the FIR filed on murder charges at Gurugram Sector 56 Police Station after Kuldeep’s complaints, Deepak was angry with his daughter for continuing to run a tennis academy in the city despite repeated objections.

According to the ITF website, Radhika played 36 singles and seven doubles matches under the support of ITF in her career. She last performed her single in March 2024 and played doubles in June 2023. It’s been more than a year since his last international tournament, but he’s established as a coach at Gurugram’s academy.

“He (Deepak) was upset for a while because he was being untold by locals over his daughter’s income. He was troubled by what they said – they kept saying that the house is running her money, and he is too dependent on it.

Police added that Deepak’s income came from rent on some small property he owned.

NDTV quoted Deepak as admitting the crime to police. He said he refused to close her academy when she was told to do so, so he shot her three times in the back.
