Pro Flyers Showdown: Nikita Glebenkin’s Bold Moves vs. Alexei Korosov’s “Professional” Play

Alexei Korosov, a 23-year-old goaltender for the Philadelphia Flyers, still has one year left on his contract but is not guaranteed a spot on the roster for the upcoming season. Last year marked a challenging full season for Korosov, as he posted a 5-9-1 record with a 3.11 goals-against average (GAA) and .884 save percentage in the AHL, alongside a 3.59 GAA and .867 save percentage in the NHL. During his time in the AHL, Korosov briefly played alongside fellow Russian-speaking prospect Nikita Glevenkin before being called back to the NHL on March 25. Glevenkin made positive remarks about Korosov in a recent interview, describing him as a skilled and positive individual.

Korosov showed some of his best performance in the AHL when playing with other Russian-speaking teammates, like Matvei Michkov, Ivan Fedotov, and Egor Zamula, although he struggled to replicate such success in the NHL. While Korosov aims to establish himself as an NHL player with the Flyers, it’s clear that he still faces a significant adjustment period. Spending another year in the AHL alongside Glevenkin and possibly Fedotov might help Korosov develop further. Despite his evident talent and dedication, the Flyers remain cautious to see if Korosov can fully adapt and carve out a lasting NHL career.

Fan Take: This update on Korosov is crucial for hockey fans because it highlights the challenging path young goaltenders face in breaking into the NHL. If Korosov can overcome these hurdles, it could signal a promising new talent for the Flyers and add depth to the league’s goaltending roster.
