Santi Cazorla is not yet ready to step away from his football career.

At 40 years old, he is set to return to La Liga next season after signing a new contract with Real Oviedo.

Oviedo announced on Saturday that Cazorla has agreed to a one-year extension, following the expiration of his previous deal this summer.

This agreement positions Cazorla as a key player in the Oviedo squad as the club makes its return to Spain’s top division after a 24-year absence.

The former Arsenal and Villarreal midfielder played a crucial role in helping Oviedo achieve promotion, scoring a pivotal goal in the playoffs against Mirandez last month.

Cazorla last played in La Liga in 2020.

He spent seven years with the Oviedo youth system before starting his professional career at Villarreal, as Oviedo faced severe financial difficulties.

After a three-year stint with Al Sadd in Qatar, he returned to Oviedo in 2023.

Throughout his successful career, Cazorla represented Spain 81 times and was part of the squad that won consecutive UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

Fan Take: This news is exciting for soccer fans as Cazorla’s return brings a veteran presence to the pitch, enhancing the competitive spirit of La Liga. His experience and skill could inspire a new generation of players, revitalizing interest in the sport and contributing to Oviedo’s journey back to the top tier of Spanish football.
