Dustin Poirier has shared his hopes for the final fight of his career, which will be a BMF title bout against Max Holloway at UFC 318 on July 19th. Known as “Diamond,” Poirier plans to retire following this match.

Poirier holds a 2-0 record against Holloway, having secured a submission win over the young fighter in February 2012 at UFC 143. He later faced Holloway again seven years afterward in a thrilling five-round interim lightweight title fight, which ended in a narrow decision.

Recently, Poirier spoke with UFC Countdown as he prepared for his retirement fight, confidently discussing his strategy against Holloway. At 36 years old, Poirier emphasized his early control of Holloway’s timing and predicts that his striking will give him the edge on fight night.

Though he never held an undisputed lightweight title, Poirier is regarded as one of the greatest 155-pound fighters in MMA history and enjoys immense respect from fans and UFC President Dana White. White highlighted Poirier’s impressive career, noting that seven of the last eleven fighters Poirier faced were former world champions, and revealed that UFC 318 was designed to honor him, taking place in New Orleans as a tribute.

Fan Take: Dustin Poirier’s retirement fight is a significant moment for MMA as it marks the end of an era for a true warrior in the lightweight division. His legacy of resilience and high-level competition continues to inspire fans and fighters alike, promising an emotional and memorable farewell on July 19th.
