Sheeraz Sets Sights on Canelo Showdown Following Impressive TKO Victory over Berlanga

British boxer Hamzah Sheeraz is now setting his sights on a potential showdown with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez after his impressive knockout win over Edgar Berlanga. Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) secured a TKO victory early in the fifth round at Louis Armstrong Stadium, having knocked Berlanga (23-2, 18 KOs) down twice in the fourth round. Despite Berlanga’s strong start, Sheeraz remained composed and adjusted his strategy following guidance from his new trainer, Andy Lee, showcasing his skill on the global stage. This fight marked Sheeraz’s debut in the super middleweight division at 168 pounds.

Talk of a clash with Alvarez emerged even before the fight, with Sheeraz expressing his readiness to trade blows with the Mexican star, whom he considers a boxing hero. “It’s an honor to share the ring with him,” Sheeraz said at the post-fight press event. He promised fans that if he faces Canelo, it won’t be a one-sided affair like Canelo’s last win over William Skulls, pledging to stand firm and fight aggressively.

Promoter Frank Warren hailed Sheeraz as the sport’s rising star, eagerly anticipating Alvarez’s upcoming bout with Terrence Crawford in September. Warren noted that every organization is eager to position Sheeraz at the top, praising his courage, power, and exciting style. “He’s a fighter who never runs, always comes forward with heart and big punches,” Warren said, emphasizing that Sheeraz has now made a significant impact on the world stage.

Trainer Andy Lee, despite only working with Sheeraz for eight weeks, has been credited for the boxer’s remarkable progress. This performance was a strong comeback after a disappointing draw against Carlos Adams earlier in the year, where Sheeraz struggled with weight and a broken hand. Lee expressed pride in Sheeraz’s potential and determination, calling him a new global boxing star.

Fan Take: Hamzah Sheeraz’s rise brings fresh excitement and unpredictability to the super middleweight division, promising thrilling future matchups. If he faces Canelo Alvarez, it could be a landmark event that reshapes the sport and elevates Sheeraz’s status among boxing elites.
