Canelo Alvarez is well-known for his extravagant spending habits from his boxing earnings. As one of the most accomplished and financially successful boxers in history, Alvarez is on track to become the first boxer to amass a net worth of $1 billion.

Seven years ago, while still under the Golden Boy Promotions banner, Alvarez secured the richest contract in sports history—a deal with DAZN guaranteeing him $365 million for 11 fights. He quickly capitalized on this groundbreaking contract. Known for his passion for cars, Alvarez owns a remarkable collection valued at over $10 million, including a $3 million Bugatti Chiron, one of the fastest road cars in the world.

In 2020, Alvarez sued Golden Boy and DAZN over disputes involving contract terms and alleged breaches of good faith. Despite that, his financial success continued as he signed a $400 million contract with Turki Al-Sheikh, head of the Riyadh Season and Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Bureau.

With an eagerly awaited showdown against Terence Crawford set for September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Alvarez is expected to earn a nine-figure payday, pushing him closer to the billion-dollar milestone. Despite Crawford’s modest $10 million payout for the fight, he values the legacy and opportunity over money.

Fan Take: This milestone highlights the massive financial growth boxing has experienced, with Canelo setting new standards for athlete earnings. Such high-profile bouts not only draw huge paydays but also bring significant attention to the sport, fueling its global popularity and future investment.
