Angel Reese Faces Potential One-Game Suspension in the WNBA

Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky have had a challenging start to the 2025 WNBA season, currently holding a 7-14 record following their recent loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Ahead of the upcoming WNBA All-Star break, the Sky will host the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday afternoon, although Britney Greener will miss the game due to a leg injury.

Despite the team’s difficulties, Reese has delivered an impressive second season in the league. The former LSU Tigers forward is averaging 14 points per game with a 44.6% shooting accuracy and leads the league with 12.6 rebounds per game, earning her second All-Star selection. Reese also leads the WNBA in technical fouls, having accumulated six so far this season. In a recent game against the Washington Mystics on July 8, Reese and Shakira Austin both received double technical fouls.

Players who receive seven technical fouls in a season are typically suspended for one game without pay, but following the WNBA’s expansion from a 40-game to a 44-game schedule, the threshold has increased to eight technical fouls, as confirmed by indie star Chloe Peterson. Further technical fouls beyond this will result in additional suspensions and heavier fines.

Reese is currently just two fouls shy of suspension after receiving a total of six technical fouls over 21 games, along with fines amounting to $1,800 ($200 each for the first three technicals and $400 for each of the next three). Two other players, Austin and Dream star Alicia Gray, are also close to suspension, with five and four technical fouls respectively.

The Chicago Sky will face the Dream at Wintrust Arena on Wednesday at noon. Reese is set to join Nafisa Collier’s All-Star team to compete against Kate Linklark’s team at 8:30 pm on Saturday in Indianapolis.

Fan Take: Angel Reese’s strong on-court performance paired with her disciplinary challenges highlight both her intensity and impact in the league. For WNBA fans, her presence in the All-Star game and her competitive edge are vital for the sport’s excitement and growth, signaling the rise of a formidable talent shaping the future of women’s basketball.
