Oleksandr Usyk’s Trainer: Ukrainians Building Up Power as Daniel Dubois Showdown Nears

The strength and conditioning coach for Oleksandr Usyk has stated that the 38-year-old boxer shows no signs of declining and is in fact stronger as he prepares for his rematch against Daniel Dubois. Usyk, who holds an undefeated record of 23-0 with 14 knockouts, is set to face 27-year-old Dubois in London this Saturday in their second heavyweight title bout.

Usyk previously defeated Dubois in Poland two years ago, winning by a ninth-round knockout despite being hit with a low blow in the fifth round. Dubois has maintained that his punches were legal, although Usyk was dominating the fight and leading on all judges’ scorecards at the time of the stoppage. Since then, Dubois has rebounded by scoring three consecutive knockout victories against Jarrell Miller, Philip Fulgovic, and Anthony Joshua.

Usyk’s trainer, Jakub Chycki, emphasized that despite Usyk’s age, he has displayed no signs of aging as he prepares for his 24th professional fight. Chycki revealed to ESPN that Usyk can maintain his usual training intensity, has grown stronger, and retained his aerobic capacity, offering a positive outlook for the rematch. Throughout training camp, Usyk is closely monitored, with data showing no decline or negative changes in his physiological or psychological responses.

Although Dubois is in peak physical condition and expected to pressure Usyk early, as he did in his fight against Joshua last September, promoter Frank Warren anticipates that Usyk will meet Dubois confidently in the center of the ring and hopes for a fast-paced contest like the one Joshua faced against Usyk. Warren encourages Dubois to use his jab and physical tools to impose himself right from the start.

Fan Take: This highly anticipated rematch is crucial for fans because it pits a seasoned champion against a powerful young contender, promising an intense clash of styles and tactics. The fight could redefine the heavyweight landscape and demonstrate whether experience or youthful energy will prevail in the sport’s premier division.
