Patrick Kane Nears Historic Milestone with the Red Wings

Patrick Kane is set to continue his journey with the Detroit Red Wings after signing another one-year contract extension. Already making waves in NHL history, Kane has accumulated 1,343 career points at just 32 years old, surpassing Mike Modano’s long-standing record of 1,374 points to become the all-time highest-scoring U.S.-born player.

Mike Modano, who concluded his NHL career with the Red Wings in the 2010-11 season, endured a severe wrist injury in November 2010 during a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, which sidelined him for several weeks.

Fans can stay updated with the latest Detroit Red Wings news, game coverage, and player stories through the Hockey News Detroit Red Wing Steam Site.

Kane, who is just eight goals shy of reaching 500 in his career, expressed his excitement about playing for the Red Wings when he initially signed in December 2024, largely influenced by the presence of his close friend and former Chicago Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBlanccut.

Reflecting on his time with Detroit late last season, Kane said, “It was great. I’m really thankful to Steve (Yzerman) and the team for giving me the opportunity to come back from surgery. Last year didn’t quite feel like home, but this year has been different.”

After a slow start to the season, Kane regained his top form when Todd McLellan took over as head coach in late December, pairing Kane on a line with DeBlanccut and rookie Marco Casper as the center.

Looking ahead, the Red Wings will undoubtedly rely on Kane’s elite performance next season if they aim to bring playoff hockey back to Little Caesars Arena for the first time in years.
