The second half of the MLB season is now in full swing as the New York Mets (55-43) prepare to host the Cincinnati Reds (51-47) for an NL Showdown on Saturday. The Reds took the opening game of the series with an 8-4 win over the Mets, marking their third straight victory while New York has dropped two in a row. For this game, Cincinnati will start pitcher Nick Martinez (7-9, 4.78 ERA), while New York will counter with Clay Holmes (8-4, 3.31 ERA). The first pitch at Citi Field is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Mets are favored at -181, while the Reds are underdogs at +151, with a total run over/under set at 8.5.

Sportsline’s Projection Model has run 10,000 simulations of each MLB game and holds a record of 46-43 for week 17 of the 2025 season. The model highlights three top bets for Saturday’s matchup: Juan Soto to have 2+ hits, runs, and RBIs (-150), Elly De La Cruz to exceed 0.5 hits (-230), and Clay Holmes to have under 5.5 strikeouts (-160).

Juan Soto ranks tied for 10th in the majors with 24 home runs, with 57 RBIs and a batting average of .262. He has had multiple productive games recently, including going 4-for-4 with a two-run homer on July 12 against the Royals. The model projects him to produce nearly a hit, run, and RBI in this game.

Elly De La Cruz leads the Reds with a .283 batting average, 18 home runs, 64 RBIs, and 106 hits. He has topped 0.5 hits in eight of his last ten games. The model forecasts him to get 1.1 hits in this matchup.

Clay Holmes leads the Mets with eight wins and has a 3.31 ERA, striking out 83 batters so far this season. While his strikeout line is set at 5.5, he has fallen below that threshold in 13 of his last 15 games. Holmes had just two strikeouts in his last start over five innings, and the model expects him to have about 4.7 strikeouts on Saturday.

Fan Take: This matchup highlights some of the most exciting talent in MLB right now, including power hitters like Juan Soto and Elly De La Cruz. For baseball fans, these games could offer thrilling performances that continue to push the sport’s appeal with clutch hitting and strategic pitching battles.
