Frank Warren: Dubois Needs to Harness Usaik’s Mental Toughness for Success

LONDON – Promoter Frank Warren emphasized the importance of adopting a mindset like Oleksandr Usyk’s following Daniel Dubois’ knockout loss to the Ukrainian fighter on Saturday. Dubois was decisively finished in the fifth round by a powerful right hand, followed by a clean left that sent Dubois’ mouthguard flying as he fell to the canvas.

According to Compubox punch stats, Usyk landed 57 out of 153 punches (37.3%), while Dubois connected with 35 out of 179 (19.6%). Usyk landed 21 jabs compared to Dubois’ 11 and showed superior power punch accuracy, hitting 36 out of 78 (46.2%) versus Dubois’ 24 out of 75 (32%).

Usyk left Wembley Stadium crowned as a three-belt undisputed champion, handing Dubois his third career knockout loss and the second time he has been stopped by Usyk. At 27, Dubois still has plenty of time ahead but promoter Warren insists he must learn from this defeat and develop a stronger mentality.

Warren commented, “Usyk has an incredible mental attitude, and that’s the key. Daniel must learn from this fight. If you lose focus, drop your guard, you pay the price.” When asked if Dubois should push harder, Warren replied, “He’s young, it’s not like he holds a title. He’s been knocked down twice, but it’s all about resilience, wanting to improve from your mistakes, and learning from them.”

Fan Take: This fight underscores the critical role mental toughness plays in boxing, beyond just physical skills. For fans, it highlights the rise of Usyk as a strategic and relentless champion, while signaling a pivotal moment for Dubois to evolve—a dynamic that promises exciting developments in heavyweight boxing.
