John Jones Responds to Dana White’s Snub, Hints at Potential UFC Comeback for a ‘Still-White’ House Event

Former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones addressed questions about his “Plan B” concerning his anticipated return to the Octagon. Jones surprised the MMA community last month by announcing his retirement after prolonged negotiations with the UFC. Subsequently, he was stripped of the undisputed heavyweight title, with Tom Aspinall being named the new champion.

Shortly after retiring, Jones revealed plans to make a comeback in 2026 following former President Donald Trump’s announcement about the UFC hosting an event on the White House lawn. However, his comeback faced setbacks when UFC CEO Dana White excluded Jones from headlining upcoming events. Jones expressed disappointment on social media regarding White’s remarks and acknowledged that with the White House event uncertain, he might return to fighting in 2026 if the right opportunity arises.

Jones also responded to criticism from fans who misinterpreted White’s comments, clarifying that White said he couldn’t afford to risk a headline with Jones and highlighted his history as a consistent main event fighter. When asked if he might take part in a different event, Jones said it’s unclear but emphasized that his priority is staying in peak condition and focusing on his current business ventures. He reiterated his intention to challenge the reigning UFC heavyweight champion upon his return.

The prospect of a White House fight initially motivated Jones to prepare for competition after his UFC 309 win over Stipe Miocic, but White’s recent statements have left his comeback plans uncertain. Meanwhile, Jones watched UFC 318, where veteran Dustin Poirier retired after losing to Max Holloway. Jones congratulated Poirier on his career via social media, though some fans criticized Jones’ message. Despite the negative reactions, Jones appeared unfazed by fan backlash.

Fan Take: This update on Jon Jones’ potential return is significant for fight fans because his presence in the heavyweight division could dramatically shift the competitive landscape. Jones’ possible comeback not only affects title contention but also adds excitement and unpredictability to the sport as a whole.
