With a major championship season behind us, it’s time for the golf world to turn its attention to the Ryder Cup.

It’s only been about two months later, but the qualifying period for the US team has almost risen.

After the BMW Championship on August 17th, the top six golfers in the Ryder Cup standings will automatically win spots for the US team, this time led by Keegan Bradley. Bradley will then create a six-captain pick to round out a 12-man team facing Team Europe at Beth Page Black in New York in September.

There are still some PGA Tour events left before the period ends, but the top six are already solidified. Fresh from his dominant victory at the British Open, top-ranked Scotty Scheffler has already won his spot. He holds a massive lead in the rankings, doubling Xander Schauffele, who is second or higher in points.

Bryson Deccanbeau has also been promised a spot. Bradley said after the UK opening, Deccanbo would receive the team’s location, regardless of whether he qualifies or not. Dechambeau is currently sitting at No. 5 on the list, but he cannot score any more points while playing for Liv Golf.

Below is where things stand for both Americans and Europeans in the Ryder Cup race.

The group is currently safe and will be getting an automatic qualifying spot for the team. Harris English and Deccanbaugh are the only golfers who really risk slipping, but Deccanbaugh is already promised to be on the spot.

There is still about a month left before the qualification is completed, but this group is almost too late to move. The only golfer in a position to pull that off is Justin Thomas. He had about 175 points back from English and was actually sixth. Thomas could potentially receive a captain’s pick if he doesn’t qualify, but he still has time to crack the top six again to remove his doubts.

The European team follows a similar qualification method, but the period ends after Betfred British Masters on August 24th. The top six golfers at that point enter, and Luke Donald makes the captain’s choice. Like Schaeffler, Rory McIlroy already has his place.
