Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Manchester City are still the team to beat for this season’s Premier League title, despite Arsenal currently leading the league with four points.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes explained that City’s championship experience and recent form give them a decisive advantage against Mikel Arteta’s young and ambitious Arsenal.

Scholes’ comments come after an eventful weekend that saw him update his title picture. Arsenal missed a chance to extend their advantage at the top of the mountain with a disappointing 2-2 draw at Sunderland on Saturday night.

Manchester City, meanwhile, produced their most dominant performance of the season with a 3-0 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The result not only reduced the gap to four points but also sent a message to their rivals that Josep Guardiola’s side are back on form.

“I wasn’t too impressed with City, but yesterday (against Liverpool) for the first time I thought they were going to be a challenger.” Scholes said on the podcast ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football’:

“I think they are still slightly better favorites than Arsenal because of what they have done so far.

“We know we are four points behind Arsenal, but they have experience and Arsenal don’t. We need to put them (City) a little ahead of them.”

Erling Haaland continued his fine form with his 14th league goal of the season, while Jeremy Doku threatened the Liverpool defense from the left.

For Arsenal, the draw with Sunderland raised fresh concerns about their ability to maintain consistency under pressure.

Despite good performances from Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice, defensive lapses once again proved costly, mirroring the Gunners’ struggles in the title race last season.
