Before Joining the Chicago Sky, WNBA Champion Shines at Links Game

Before their upcoming game against the Lynx, Chicago Sky has made a significant roster move after a challenging start to the 2025 WNBA season. The team entered the All-Star break with a disappointing 7-15 record, managing to win only four of their last nine games following a tough 3-10 beginning. Despite improvements, they ranked 12th in scoring and 10th in defense according to professional basketball statistics.

Angel Leased, a two-time All-Star forward, has been the standout player for Chicago with career-best averages of 14 points, 3.8 assists, and a league-leading 12.6 rebounds per game, recording 15 double-doubles this season. Unfortunately, the team has been hit hard by injuries, notably losing starting point guard Courtney Vanderroot to a season-ending knee injury. Veteran guard Ariel Atkins leads the team in scoring after Leased, averaging 13.9 points, while Michaela Onyenwere is also contributing as part of the rotation.

With three players sidelined, Chicago’s roster is down to nine, prompting the team to sign Marquesha Davis to a seven-day hardship contract. Davis, a second-year guard, was a member of the 2024 WNBA champion New York Liberty and has played 29 games across two seasons with modest contributions. The Sky’s next game is scheduled for Tuesday at 8 pm ET against the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Fan Take: This roster update highlights the resilience and adaptability needed within the WNBA, especially for teams battling injuries. For fans, signing a young, championship-experienced player like Marquesha Davis could inject some much-needed energy and hope into Chicago Sky’s season, showcasing the depth and competitive spirit of the league.
