WNBA Icon Lisa Leslie Shares Heartfelt Christmas Message for Angel Reese

Despite a tough season for the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese shone brightly during the 2025 WNBA campaign. She posted averages of 14.7 points and a league-leading 12.6 rebounds per game, achieving 23 double-doubles that tied her with Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas for the most in the league. Reese’s dominant rebounding and strong overall performance earned her a second consecutive WNBA All-Star selection, cementing her reputation as one of the top frontcourt players as she enters her third professional season.

The former LSU Tigers and Maryland Terrapins standout aims to reach new career milestones in 2026. If she maintains her current trajectory, Reese could move into third place all-time for double-double seasons. TrendyHoopStars notes that only a select few women’s basketball legends — including three-time WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie and 2021 MVP Jonquel Jones — have averaged double-doubles across multiple seasons in both college and the WNBA, placing Reese in elite company.

Leslie responded to Reese’s potential to break his record on social media, cheering her on as she pursues this historic achievement. Remarkably, Reese accomplished this feat just in her second season, with a rookie year averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, the highest single-season rebound average in WNBA history. Alongside former MVPs Yolanda Griffith and Tina Charles, she is now one of only three players to average a double-double in their first two seasons.

As Reese enters the next season, she will also target becoming the quickest player in league history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Should she continue her double-double pace, she stands poised to be the only player in both college and WNBA history to post three seasons of double-doubles. Such a milestone would profoundly reinforce her legacy as one of women’s basketball’s all-time greats.

Fan Take: Angel Reese’s rise is a thrilling storyline for WNBA fans, showcasing the incredible talent and impact young stars can have early in their careers. Her continued excellence not only inspires future generations but also elevates the profile of the league, promising an exciting future for women’s basketball.
