Claressa Shields Set to Defend Her Undisputed Title Against Lani Daniels in a Can’t-Miss Showdown

Claresa Shields successfully defended her undisputed heavyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over New Zealand’s Lani Daniels at Little Caesars Arena. The judges scored the fight 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91, all in favor of Shields, who dominated throughout the bout. Shields praised Daniels for her toughness but emphasized her own effective body and head shots that broke down her opponent. This fight marked Shields’ first competition in a second calendar year since 2022, and she expressed eagerness for bigger challenges ahead, including potential matchups with retired champion Laila Ali and welterweight titleholder Michaela Meyer.

Shields stated her intention to remain in the heavyweight division and hopefully face Laila Ali, mentioning a proposed $15 million fight that has yet to receive a response. In February, Shields made history as the first boxer, male or female, to hold undisputed titles across three heavyweight divisions. Daniels, the IBF Light Heavyweight Champion, had fought seven consecutive times before meeting Shields, showing resilience especially in the later rounds despite being worn down.

Rapper Rick Ross accompanied Shields during her ring walk before a packed crowd of 15,369. The fight saw exchanges of playful moments in the early rounds, with Shields gaining control from round five onward, landing precise jabs and body shots that gradually wore Daniels down. Though Daniels found some success in the final rounds, Shields managed to absorb the punches and land significant counters, securing a comfortable win.

Shields reflected on the competition, suggesting that current opponents have been too easy for her, recalling her dominance at 154 and 160 pounds where no rivals were willing to face her. In the co-main event, former WBC Super Welterweight Champion Tony Harrison returned after a hiatus, securing a 10th-round unanimous decision victory over Edward Diaz despite being knocked down briefly in the ninth round. Harrison, representing his Detroit roots, showcased resilience and skill to take the win.

Fighting fans should watch closely, as Shields’ ambition and skill set the stage for historic battles that could redefine female boxing on a global scale.
