Christian Wilkins’ Kiss Leaves Raiders Players Feeling Uncomfortable, Sources Reveal

On Thursday, Christian Wilkins was released by the Las Vegas Raiders after an incident where he kissed a teammate on the head, which led to a physical confrontation, sources informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter. However, this was not the sole reason for his release, as Wilkins had also been recovering from a Jones fracture in his left foot sustained last October.

The Raiders had voided the remaining $35.2 million guaranteed on Wilkins’ contract as of June 4. His release was processed under veteran termination rights rules, according to sources. Wilkins requested the NFL Players Association to file a grievance on his behalf, which the union submitted on Thursday.

The incident happened in the team’s meeting room and was described as “playful” by a source, though his teammates perceived it differently. What followed from the teammates remains unclear. A formal complaint was lodged with the Raiders’ HR department, which then launched an investigation. The Raiders declined to comment through a spokesperson.

Wilkins had signed a four-year, $110 million contract with the Raiders in his last offseason, including $84.75 million guaranteed. Before joining Las Vegas, he played five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, achieving a career-high nine sacks in 2023. His 2024 season was cut short due to surgery for a Jones fracture, after recording 17 tackles, two sacks, and six quarterback hits in just five games.

Fan Take: This development is significant for NFL fans as it highlights the challenges of team dynamics and player conduct either affecting careers or team cohesion. Wilkins’ release could prompt teams to re-examine how off-field behavior and injury management impact player retention and locker room culture.
