David Moyes has expressed concerns that Everton is not in a strong enough position to sign new players as the Premier League season approaches.
While commenting during the team’s preseason tour in Chicago, he noted that the Merseyside club hoped to make more acquisitions but feels “stuck” in several negotiations.
To date, Everton has recruited 19-year-old left-back Adam Azune, goalkeeper Mark Travers, and French forward Tiano Barry this summer. Additionally, they have made Carlos Alcaraz’s loan a permanent transfer.
These signings come at a time when the team has seen the departure of seasoned players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucouré, Ashley Young, and Jack Harrison.
“The reality is that we haven’t finalized many deals yet, and that’s a fact,” Moyes remarked. “We need to keep pushing forward because time is limited.
“Initially, I was surprised; Everton is an iconic club with a rich history, and the new stadium is an exciting venture for us. But then you realize that we’ve been teetering near relegation for the past five years, not far from the bottom.”

“What is really concerning is that we need to come to Everton and rebuild faith in those who can demonstrate that the club is progressing and that there is a promising future ahead.”
During their preseason matches, Everton drew against League 2’s Accrington Stanley and lost to Championship side Blackburn before heading to the US.
Most recently, Everton faced a defeat against Bournemouth in the Premier League summer series.
“I want to be upfront with the fans. I’m being direct about it now—we’re facing challenges in securing new signings quickly,” Moyes stated.
“Hopefully, we can start to see things align.”
Fan Take: This news is pivotal for supporters as it highlights the urgency for Everton to strengthen their squad—especially with the departure of key players. If the club cannot navigate these challenges successfully, it could spell trouble for their season ambitions and impact fan morale significantly.
