The Kansas City Royals announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Rich Hill on Tuesday, just a week after the 45-year-old took the mound in his 21st major league season. Hill, who has pitched for 14 different teams—tying the record held by Edwin Jackson—posted a 0-2 record with a 5.00 ERA in two starts for Kansas City. The Royals also promoted right-hander Thomas Hatch from Triple-A Omaha ahead of their game against Atlanta.

Hill’s recent performance included allowing six hits over five innings in a 6-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs and starting another game against Atlanta, where he gave up six walks and four runs in four innings, ending in a 10-7 defeat. Making his MLB debut with the Cubs in 2005, Hill holds a career record of 90 wins and 76 losses with a 4.02 ERA in 388 games, including 250 starts.

Fan Take: Rich Hill’s longevity and experience bring a unique depth to the Royals’ pitching staff, showcasing the resilience and dedication needed to sustain a lengthy MLB career. His journey through numerous teams illustrates the ever-evolving nature of baseball rosters and the constant search for veteran leadership, which can inspire both fans and younger players alike.
