Alexander Isak has informed ESPN that he missed Newcastle’s preseason tour amid talks regarding a potential transfer to Liverpool.
Newcastle attributed his absence from the Asia Tour to “minor thigh injuries.”
He did not play in Sunday’s match against Arsenal in Singapore and K-League XI, and he will also miss a fixture against Tottenham Hotspur this week.
According to ESPN, the Swedish international is considering a move away from Newcastle this summer, with Liverpool being a strong contender if he becomes available.
A spokesperson from Real Sociedad confirmed to ESPN that Isak is currently focused on his recovery in Zubieta, near San Sebastian.
Having played for Authentic for three years before joining Newcastle in 2022, Isak has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising young forwards.
Newcastle has been hesitant to let Isak go, especially since he has scored 44 Premier League goals over three seasons and has three years remaining on his contract.
This summer, Liverpool secured the signing of Hugo Ekitique from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69 million ($91 million), following a competitive bidding process against Newcastle.

Despite adding players like Florian Wiltz, Jeremy Fripon, and Milos Kerkez to their roster, Premier League champions Liverpool are still keen to strengthen ahead of the season.
“(Isak) is still our player. He has a contract with us,” said manager Eddie Howe this week. “We have some influence over his future. I hope he stays, but that decision isn’t solely mine.
“We haven’t received formal offers for him from any other clubs.”
Fan Take: This news is significant as it highlights the ongoing player movement in the Premier League, especially with young talents like Isak. His potential transfer to a top club like Liverpool could not only impact Newcastle’s lineup but also shake up the competitive dynamics across the league.
