The World Series odds experienced some shifts following Thursday’s MLB trade deadline, yet the Los Angeles continue to be top contenders. Surprisingly, the made few moves despite apparent pitching weaknesses, while their National League rivals—the Mets, Phillies, and Padres—were much more active, according to Caesars’ baseball trader Matt Tokia. Both Tokia and Caesars’ Head of Baseball Trading Eric Bigio are now focusing on the 2025 World Series futures after the trade activities.

San Diego, holding the NL wild card spot and three games behind Los Angeles in the NL West, made significant trades, notably acquiring Mason Miller from the Athletics, a key move that solidified their roster. This prompted more bettors to back the Padres, improving their World Series odds from +2800 to +1800, placing them 11th on Caesars’ list behind favorites like the , Tigers, Yankees, Phillies, and Mets.

In contrast, the San Francisco Giants, having gone 2-12 in their last 14 games after a promising 52-43 record on July 11, shifted to a selling mode at the deadline, trading away key players like Kamilo Doval and Tyler Rogers. This downturn was seen positively by Caesars, as it impacts World Series dynamics.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners, initially at +2200 odds, bolstered their lineup by acquiring third baseman Eugenio Suarez from the Diamondbacks, enhancing their power hitting. The Mariners, now at +1600, are considered a sleeper pick with a strong pitching staff and improved offensive capabilities, with Caesars experts even suggesting they could rival top teams like the Yankees.

Patrick Everson, a Fox Sports betting analyst based in Las Vegas, emphasizes the importance of following these developments closely as they reshape the landscape of the MLB postseason race.

Fan Take: Baseball fans should pay close attention to these trade deadline moves as they not only shift the balance of power in the league but also set the stage for a highly competitive postseason. The sitting back might lead to unexpected opportunities for emerging teams like the Padres and Mariners, making this season’s playoff race even more thrilling.
