ORWENS MILLS, Maryland – Cepstraka has withdrawn from the BMW Championship due to private family issues but is scheduled to play in the Tour Championship next week.
His manager Butler Menick did not reveal the nature of the family matter in a statement that Straca said he had asked for privacy.
This leaves the 49-man field for the BMW Championship at Cave Valley. Straca is not affected by the withdrawal. He is fifth in the FedEx Cup, and is too late to claim a $5 million prize sent to the No. 1 player in the rankings. Scotty Schaeffler decided.
All 30 players who reach the Tour Championship start from scratch in pursuit of the FedEx Cup title and its $10 million bonus.
Straca is sixth in the European Ryder Cup rankings. This week, Austrian natives can bump from the top six by Shane Laurie or Rudig Oberg. The six major players will qualify for European teams after the Tour Championships and the British Masters. Either way, the Straca could be a pick. He is ranked 10th in the world.
