Sunderland is believed to be considering signing a “elite” attacker during the summer transfer window ahead of rival Leeds United.
Sunderland agrees to Alderie rates
It was a merciless summer for the black cats in the market.
Sunderland’s latest addition is believed to be Getafe’s defender Omar Alderete, and a £10 million deal reportedly agreed to sign the 28-year-old. The Paraguirons began their 34 Laliga matches last season, proving to be key players, averaging three air duels per game.
While Black Cats supporters certainly hope that the club’s summer business won’t be going there yet, Seville’s centre back Lois Bade has a strong link to his recent move to Right Stadium.
Now, Sunderland’s new name is being thrown into the mix as he wants to bring additional quality to the other end of the pitch ahead of the Premier League opening on Saturday at home.
According to Messenger (via Sports Witness), Sunderland approached for Roma forward Artem Dovic before fellow promoted Side Leeds United.
The 28-year-old has been selected for both the promoted Premier League club and West Ham, and his current club has requested over £23 million for his signature this summer, with the Black Cats inquiring.
Dovbyk is an experienced attacker who was able to add much needed firepower to the Sunderland team, scoring 17 goals in 45 appearances for Rome.
The offensive ace is right in his peak era, so that wouldn’t be the case of signing a black pussy to a mature young man, and journalist Zach Roy described him as an “elite” player.
“Victor Osimhen will be the most pursued center this summer, but I don’t think Artem Dovbyk is too far. He is approaching the height of his career as CF and has proven to be an elite target man with link-up capabilities, not just a great finisher.”
If Sunderland can beat Leeds and West Ham to Dovic’s signature, it will feel like an added bonus, especially in terms of making one of the other promoted aspects since last season, as he’s already done with the midfielders’ Habib Diala and Noah Sadiki.
Many goal threats are needed to maintain a good chance for Le Bliss men to avoid returning to the championship, and Dovic could be a powerful addition to helping with that issue.
