Wings Weigh Their Options with Paige Bookers Ahead of Showdown Against Indiana Fever

The Dallas Wings are set to face the Indiana Fever on Tuesday during the 2025 WNBA season, entering the game with an 8-24 record while the Fever hold an 18-14 record. The Wings have been struggling lately, losing 11 of their last 13 games and dropping a five-game winning streak.

Injuries have limited All-Star rookie guard Paige Bueckers to just 25 out of 32 games this season. Bueckers recently missed a game against the New York Liberty due to injury but is expected to play against the Fever despite ongoing health concerns.

Fans of the Wings are urging caution, asking Bueckers to rest to prevent further injury. She has been a standout performer this season, averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game, leading the team in those categories. However, with the team eight games behind a playoff spot and only 12 games left, fans feel there’s no need to risk her health for a slim postseason chance. Many believe she did not perform at full strength in her last game and insist she should have limited minutes or sit out.

The Wings face a tough decision regarding Bueckers’ participation, especially considering the severity of back injuries like the ones she’s dealing with. Legendary players such as Elena Delle Donne have had their careers affected by similar issues, and Wings fans hope to avoid that fate for their rising star.

On the other side, Indiana’s star guard, Kate Rinklark, who has been sidelined with an injury, is expected to return. Fans want both young stars to face off but prioritize their long-term health. Given the Wings’ current poor standing, it seems reasonable for Dallas to prioritize Bueckers’ recovery in this disappointing season rather than push her to play through pain.

Fan Take: This situation highlights the delicate balance between competitive drive and player health in the WNBA. Protecting young stars like Paige Bueckers is crucial not only for their careers but also for the future growth and appeal of the league.
