Liverpool was the largest spender in the Premier League this summer, but despite this, their business is not over. They want to break the English transfer record again by signing Alexander Isaac, but hope that another centre-back will be added to Arne Slot’s team.
Earlier this week, the defending Premier League champion confirmed Giovan Nileoni’s signature, but the plan is for another centre-back to chase him through the door. And the man they want is Mark Guehe.
Liverpool could wait to sign Mark Guech in 2026
Liverpool has been discussing with Crystal Palace over its contract with Guehi in recent weeks, but has not yet reached an agreement. And according to a soccer insider, Pete O’Rourke has revealed that nothing could happen until next summer.
“Liverpool has another centre-back with Giovanni Leoni moving from his younger player Palma to Anfield. I don’t think Liverpool will stop him from pursuing this move for Guech, but it’s dangerous for the palace as Guech maintains his contract and may be suited to Liverpool.
“They will see it again next summer and take Guehi at their own pace. For Guehi himself, it’s a big season. If he doesn’t guarantee a few minutes for the first team, he won’t want to move out of the palace.
Guehi will be the top signature for Liverpool, but if Ibrahima Conate stays this summer, he is expected to not be a regular starter. There are benefits to staying at Crystal Palace for another season, as this hurts his British chances. And the people of Anfield will be welcome to sign him for free in 2026.
