Coco Gauff fired a member of her coaching staff, Matt Daly, a few days before the launch of the US.

She replaced him with Gavin Macmillan, a biomechanics expert believed to have helped Aryna Sabalenka fix her serve and rise to the number one ranking in the world.

Daly confirmed his firing Wednesday to tennis reporter Ben Rosenberg.

“There were only good things to say about Coco and I enjoyed working with her,” Gouf told Rothenberg.

Gauff hired grip specialist Daly to work on her serve and forehand after firing then-coach Brad Gilbert, following the 2023 tournament win and following the disappointing fourth round exit at the 2024 US Open.

But Gouf has struggled since his victory. She tracked France’s open victory in a stunning first-round defeat at Wimbledon. She recently lost in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open.

According to Rothenberg and The Athletic, Macmillan and Gauff’s longtime coach Jean-Christophe Faurel were working with Gouf at the Billy Junking Tennis Center in New York on Wednesday.

Members of Gauff’s team athletic confirmed the coaching transaction. Gouf had not dealt with the shakeup early on Wednesday.

Gauff will enter the US Open as the world’s third-place player behind No. 1 Sabalenka and No. 2 Igaświątek, who won the Cincinnati Open. Single-player at the US Open is scheduled to start on Sunday. The US open draw will be announced Thursday.
