  • Why Andre Onana was left on the bench for Man United
  • Reuben Amorim is not afraid to make big calls

Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim shed light on his decision to launch Altai Bay Indeal before Andre Onana, confirming that the choice was purely technical.

The move raised an eyebrow before kickoff and Onana fell on the bench, but Amorim insisted that making difficult calls for the team’s benefit was part of his responsibility as manager.

The goalkeeper also missed United’s first match of the season against Arsenal, a 1-0 loss at Old Trafford.

Last week, Onana didn’t reach the team due to a match, but this week she was chosen solely for her role on the bench.

Why Andre Onana was left on the bench for Man United

Amorim was evident in his reasoning. “It’s kind of decision a manager has to make.” He said, as Fabrizio Romano reported.

“Look at the game, imagine the next game and try to put the best players in order to win the game.

Amorim’s decision to turn to Bay Indeal again this week shows that the Portuguese manager has less faith in Onana, who struggled during his difficult times at Man United.

Bayindir spent most of his career at Old Trafford as an Onana backup option, but in the first two games of the season, the Turkish goalkeeper nodded over Onana.

For Amorim, the focus is on ensuring United balances all of their equipment. The manager suggested that selection could continue to be fluid in response to requests for upcoming matches.

While the omission of Onana naturally attracted headlines, Amorim emphasized that this was not a punishment, but a tactical call based on the needs of the opponent and the team on the day.

Whether Bayindir keeps his place or Onana is regaining his number one spot, Amorim’s approach shows that the position is not guaranteed.
