  • One of six Premier League teams considering Newcastle Gallagher
  • Gallagher can alleviate long-term depth concerns

Newcastle United were late defeated by Liverpool on Monday, and Liverpool scored on their debut as Rionugmoha made it 3-2. But that loss of points is only Eddie Howe’s second biggest problem coming out of the game.

With Anthony Gordon sent for a late challenge at Virgil Van Dik and currently facing three-game suspension, we are confident that four of the 11 that began Monday will not be available in the next Premier League fixture with Leeds.

All three other absences are injuries and Fabian Shah will have to take off due to a concussion. He is most likely to be available for Leeds matches, but that will depend on his recovery in the coming days.

The bigger injuries suffered from midfield duo Sandro Tonari and Jollington. Tonari had to be removed due to an apparent shoulder injury, and Jollington continued 10 minutes later with Musulz’s problem.

After the match, Howe was asked about both injuries, saying, “It doesn’t look good” and “it looks like they’re threatening us in the sense that they could be out for a while.” For this reason, Newcastle is considering dramatic actions in the transfer market and introducing replacement midfielders in the final days of the window.

One of six Premier League teams considering Newcastle Gallagher

Newcastle is considering signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher to replace the injured Tonari and Jollington. TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey spoke about many teams that are interested in Gallagher, but told fans, “Don’t rule out Newcastle” and “Look for Newcastle.”

It appears Gallagher was on Newcastle’s radar before this week, but their interest grew after the injury. It is currently unknown how much Atletico wants for the 25-year-old, but he paid him £33 million last summer.

On the personal side of things, Gallagher reportedly just over £150,000 a week, with Newcastle in affiliated with his agency, the elite management agency.

Gallagher is gaining interest from several clubs hoping to return to the Premier League before the transfer period ends. While Newcastle and Everton seem most likely to move now, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Tottelum and Manchester United are all considering England midfielders.

Gallagher can alleviate long-term depth concerns

Some clubs are interested in signing Gallagher, but they are all looking to replace a slightly different midfielder. Six different clubs see him as a potential solution to their problems speak to his diversity.

Manchester United and Tottenham consider Gallagher to be the typical defensive midfielder, and Tottenham is considering him whether Eve Bisma will move. Last season, he was in the top 15% of players to tackle defensive recovery and success rates.

Crystal Palace may be viewing Gallagher as an alternative to Ebebekiez following its move to Arsenal. In that case, he would be a much more offensive signature. During his loan season at Crystal Palace, Gallagher recorded 13 goals involvement in 39 games, showing insight to attack when properly utilised.

The typical midfield of Newcastle’s Jollington, Tonari and Bruno Guimalet are all players who can perform defensively and offensively. As various suitors want Gallagher on both of these attributes, if both injuries turn out to be long-term, he turns out to be giving depth behind all three when the trio is fit and firing, he is the perfect alternative.
