New York – Aryna Sabalenka has an open trophy in the US. Fans at her game on Friday night now have the ring.
The fans proposed in the stands inside Louis Armstrong Stadium during Sabalenca’s third round victory over Leila Fernandez, but the first seed was one of those forced to enjoy a happy moment.
“I think this is the first time someone has proposed it during my game,” Sabalenka said. “It was a very sweet moment, but I was trying not to start smiling because it was so cute. I think they’re so happy right now.”
Fans immediately began cheering as soon as they saw the man dropping the ring in his hand and onto one knee, and he waving his arms to urge them to make them bigger. The woman said yes through her tears of joy, so she recorded her phone to record the moment.
“I was just trying to keep my game focused and it was a great moment,” Sabalenka said. “And, as I said in court, I wish them a happy marriage.”
